HELLO DeSoto Parish and other readers out there !! I hope you all enjoyed and took advantage of the 2 nice days we had that were actually below 100 degrees, cause THE HEAT IS ON again. It’s hard to believe we actually enjoyed mid 90’s and think it was cool haha....but fact of the matter is it felt very nice, especially those mornings with 60’s as temps...I wanted to stay home on the back porch, but work comes first here at MNC.

We had James Williams here and he entertained a crowd playing the violin. He is very talented and plays a variety of songs, to include gospel, patriotic, and good old time country. The crowd really enjoyed his music and hopefully he will come back and play some more. We love good music of any kind !! Fell free to come and share YOUR talents with us.

DPSO Makes Donation to “The Deliverance Crew” in Stonewall

DPSO Makes Donation to “The Deliverance Crew” in Stonewall

For those unfamiliar, back in November 2021, Sheriff Jayson Richardson sought out a way to allow deputies to grow out their beards while supporting local charities in the process. For a small fee each month, deputies would be allowed to let those whiskers grow, and the money would be donated to a non-profit charity of the Sheriff’s choosing! The goal would be to post and highlight these groups for the great work they do, and encourage others to get involved. Thus far nearly $20,000 has been donated to local charities since 2021!! This month, Sheriff Richardson has chosen “The Deliverance Crew” which is an offshoot of the Men of Prayer group in Stonewall!

North DeSoto Upper SRO, Brooklyn Smith, has thoroughly enjoyed her run of the school this summer! With no students she’s been able to shoot some hoops, read some books, and play with all the toys around the school! She says she just can’t wait for students to return next week because the school has just been too quiet without them. What good is a ball-pit and basketball goal if you have no friends to play with anyway?!

Holy Angels Representative Speaks to Mansfield Lions Club

Holy Angels Representative Speaks to Mansfield Lions Club

The guest speaker at the Lions Club last week was Ms. Tony Gooden with Holy Angels in Shreveport, La. Holy Angels was started in 1965 by Catholic Bishop Charles Greco and the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows. Their mission was to help transition growing challenged children from the nursery to a group home setting. They offer physical, occupational and speech therapy to children with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The Holy Angels also train in vocational and adaptive skills to help the kids transition back into their communities. Ms. Gooden says they have children from 16 different states and 84 cents out of every dollar donated goes into care for the kids. For more information call 318-797-8500 or go to their site: angels@laholyangels.org.

The Lions meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday for a catered lunch at the Clista A. Calhoun Center and you are welcome to come by.

Tips and Tales with

Tips and Tales with

Let’s get shakin! Don’t get me wrong there are many things to enjoy about the south in the summer. Boating, lakes, beaches, pools. Obviously most involve water because let’s face it, it gets miserably HOT. In fact, we are having one of the worst summers we have seen in quite some time.

Now to the best part, summer gardens, some grow from them, and some buy from farmers markets and some from the all too delightful road side stands.

A WARM greeting to you readers out there!! My goodness the oven is ON and we cooking on HIGH!! If it gets any hotter we gonna be falling off the bone like a Brookshire's rotisserie chicken haha. I hope everyone is staying cool and hydrated in this heat and lets pray it cools down to below 100!

We celebrated the 4th of July in traditional fashion here at MNC. Dietary fixed us the traditional grilled hot dogs, grilled burgers, potato salad, and baked beans for lunch and it was a delight!! Kelvin cooked them a little early so he wouldn't be out in the excessive heat but kept them warm for us on the grill until lunchtime.

BackAlley Theatre Announces Linda Sibley’s Retirement from BAT Board

BackAlley Theatre Announces Linda Sibley’s Retirement from BAT Board

BackAlley Community Theatre is saddened for our Board, but joyful for Linda Sibley, to announce her retirement from the BackAlley Board of Directors at the end of this Season 22. Fortunately, for all of us, Linda will continue to perform on our Back-Alley stage. Linda has been a dedicated volunteer and supporter of the BAT Board for over 20 years. We will surely miss her contributions to our Board with her experience and knowledge of theater and her open communication, which she has always shared with our Board.
