Pioneer Christmas Parade Features“Treasure Chest” Raffle December 7th

On Saturday, December 7th, The Historic Grand Cane Association (HGCA) will be offering a prize packed “Treasure Chest” to be raffled during the upcoming Pioneer Christmas Parade and Trade Day. The Treasure Chest is now on display at the Capital One Grand Cane Branch and is filling up daily with an array of prizes. Tickets for the raffle are available, in advance, at Capital One Bank, Grand Cane branch. Tickets may also be purchased from HGCA Board members and at the HGCA booth the day of the event. Tickets are $1.00 each.

City of Mansfield Christmas Parade Slated for December 14

Santa’s Elves and the Mansfield Alive! Committee have been hard at work with planning and decorating for the 2013 City of Mansfield Christmas Parade. The annual event will be held on the second Saturday of December, which falls on December 14, beginning at 2:00 PM. Organizers invite you to come celebrate the Season with them, with the annual event even bigger and better than last year.

DeSoto Clerk of Court AppointsSusan Huey as Deputy Clerk

On Tuesday, November 12, DeSoto Parish Clerk of Court, Jeremy Evans, announced that he had named a permanent Deputy Clerk to replace semi-retired Interim Clerk, Jena Mannies. Mrs.Mannies, who came out of retirement to ease the transition of Evan’s taking office in July 2012, will continue to serve and assist in the Clerk of Court’s office. Evan’sadded that Mrs. Mannies’ knowledge and experience was invaluable, and he was pleased that she will still be available to assist in whatever area that is needed.

Governor Jindal Breaks Ground on North Louisiana Crime Lab

On Friday, November 15, Governor Bobby Jindal and local officials, including DeSoto Parish District Attorney Richard Z. Johnson, Jr., State Representative Richard Burford, and State Senator Sherri Buffington, marked the groundbreaking of the new North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory in Caddo Parish.

First Tee Dedication Ceremony Held in Mansfield

On November 6, board members, officers, public officials and other interested citizens gathered for the formal dedication of Mansfield’s First Tee program, which is a division of the DeSoto Kids Development and Education, Inc. The gray skies and threat of rain could not dampen the spirits of those in attendance as various speakers talked of what the program would mean to the youth of Mansfield. Founder of First Tee of DeSoto, Steward Collins, served as Master of Ceremonies for the unprecedented event.

Powells Honored by Louisiana Lions with Presentation of Melvin Jones Award

At a recent Louisiana Lions Crippled Children’s Camp board meeting, Raymond and Evelyn Powell were recognized by Louisiana Lions Club members for their charitable work throughout the state during a most esteemed award ceremony. Past District Governor, Don Brown, presented the Powells the prestigious Melvin Jones Award, which is the highest form of recognition that Lion can receive for their philanthropy efforts.

Logansport’s Christmas Festival “A Storybook Christmas” Will Offer Something for Everyone

If you think back to when you were small, and the excitement that the Christmas season brought, it shouldn’t be hard for you to get into the spirit of the season with this year’s theme for Logansport’s Christmas Festival. The two day event entitled, “A Storybook Christmas-Miracle on Main” will take place on Friday, November 29 and November 30, with more lights added to this year’s displays. Christmas event committee Chairman, Debbie Amox, and her elves have been working non-stop for several weeks on new displays and various electrical projects that are required for everything to run as smoothly as possible.

Logansport’s Food Bank “God’s Pantry” Provides Blessings to Many

During the month of September the Logansport Food Bank, lovingly known as God’s Pantry, moved its location from downtown Main Street in Logansport to 1012 Gum Street (next to the old Logansport High School football field). The new location has been refurbished and supplies the food bank with more room, better parking and much better loading and unloading conditions. Trucks delivering food items no longer have to park in the street on Hwy 84, with workers being able to unload in a safer environment. Bobbie Childress and Sue Fields are both ecstatic over their new facility, and look forward to filling the new building to capacity.

MPD Officer Antoinette Turner Promoted to Corporal

On October 31, Officer Antoinette Turner of the Mansfield Police Department received a promotion to the rank of Corporal. Acting Chief Gary Hobbs along with Administrative Assistant Joseph Pratt made the recommendation for promotion to Mayor Curtis McCoy for approval.
